Coach Crane is a Montgomery, AL native and a 1982 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School where he played on the 1982 6A state runner up team. He went on to play four years at Huntingdon College as an outfielder/infielder, earning both a bachelors and masters degree. Crane also served as an assistant coach at Huntingdon in 1986-87 working with outfielders and hitters for a team that won the Southern States Conference and earned its way to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. Crane made a career in law enforcement as an FBI agent with stops in Iowa, Nebraska, and Mississippi before retiring and coming back to Montgomery as a hitting instructor at Capital Strike Zone. He has two adult daughters, Gracie and Chloe.
